Welcome to Monaco, the richest per-capita country in the world!
Monaco is a rich man’s paradise.

If it’s luxury you seek, this is the place to go. Here I finally met up with one of my best friends from Sweden, Miss Lova! We spent the day exploring various parts of the city, from the 3-story yachts to its famous palace, magnificent hotels, fancy-looking people, rows of Rolex and Gucci stores, massive mansions, Ferraris, and 50-euro menu items. We even got to see Monte Carlo, one of the world’s most famous casinos! “Look at the rich men, but don’t touch!” said my mother.

It’s one of the smallest countries in the world, consisting of 3 small bays, some landmass, and a rock formation that translates to “the dog’s head” despite looking nothing like one.

We had a fantastic time absorbing a lifestyle that we will never have and looking at things that cost more than my college tuition. Regardless, we managed to each spend only 55 euros over the course of 2 days, including hostels, food, activities, and wine (naturally). We opted to eat food from a grocery store, where we even got to sample wine at 10 in the morning! Monaco, we like you.
But, perhaps the highlight of our exploration was a beautiful little beach we randomly stumbled upon. It was a true hidden gem.

Our hostel was another hidden gem, costing only 20 euros per night, and located only 45 minutes by foot from Monaco in Cap D’Ail, France. It was situated right on the coast of the Riviera with crystal blue water for as far as the eye could see!

Monaco, you luxurious little thing, thank you for being so entertaining. We had a blast simply gawking at you all day, and thank you for also showing us that French-speaking toddlers are perhaps the cutest thing in the world. I’ll think of your lush lifestyle and chuckle to myself when I’m eating $2 noodle bowls in Beijing this September.
Current location: Cinque Terre, Italy
Next stop: Ljubljana, Slovenia
That is a great hostel price!
